wirefraame

scruffy yet functional wireframe.
staying with my initial idea of a 5 page smooth scroll down site, with a fixed navigation and character. this means i get to mess around with z-index again. which i actually like.
likely i encounter some fixed/absolute position difficulties. but i reckon its doabubble with the assistance of the internet.
im going to include a lot of javascript, simply, with rollovers and quirky hidden things. once ive woven in the necessary 3, ill have a look see cos i wanna make this great. but firstly i wanna make it work.

the 5 pages will be made up of 5 images, not background images, i shall center them all in one wrapper div, and in seperate classes leaving a background colour, but meaning i dont have to cry about diferent screen sizes, and pixelation of my images.
the inside lines represent differences within the illustration. im hoping this will be a design and idea, maybe not well out there, but interesting engaging and delivered well.
next step : put together a rough diagram of where i want my javascript items living, and how ill go about bulding this whole fing.

sorry for the rush, very late in the day. panicking like a headless cockerel.

decided decision dermaking

After many back and forth back and forth swings, back to the original theme of a fall into the unconscious.
times against me, due to my own ridicolous prioritising, a mistake i refuse to make again, but an altogether do a bubble project.

research into a few different options, possibilites, and rough sketching has revealed this theme to be my front runner.
i did a few thumbnails, rough ideas da da da jazz hands
very rough. and decided on what i thought i wanted to do in the beginning. a smooth scroll using javascript, and a load of weird hidden quirks. courtesy of javascript.

Larry Constantine and Lucy Lockwood

not far away from their hogwarthian names, these two web wizards introduced user faced design in the format of a boo'ek.

dumbed down - activity centred, purposeful design.

structure, simplicity,visibility, feedback, tolerance, reusability.
in a metaphorical nutshell, youve gotta consider, expect and prepare for the above.

structure - does it make sense ? no ? then youre an idiot. what's the architecture behind the way you've shoved stuff on the page ? does it lead on to other stuff, is relevant. think dingbat think.

simplicity - tasks should be easy/fuss free/hassluzz t complete. dont make everything as over complicated as my blog posts.

visibility - dont fuzz up peoples eyes with unecessary gubbins. yeah facebook, and letmewatchthis.com take youre cruddy ads away theyre distracting. poor design interface.

feedback - is everything up to date ? youre not showing them a load of personally irrelevant crap are you ? come one now kids. filterrrrr.

tolerance - flexible, tolerant, the mary poppins of design. prepare, plan and by that outsmart all eventualitys. making a smooth ride, shorta like a trip out on the quads.

reusability - your site should remember recall and retain information, so the poor exhausted user doesnt have to keep telling you the same, no doubt boring information.

mental note to self. refer to this CONSTANTly. get it ?

design for web

sure everyones seen it by now, but im trying to figure out how to design above the fold for my voyage project, this popped up after doing a quick search.
interesting to see, and will have a definite effect on th way i continue to design.

voyage garble

Finally settled on a theme, after much deliberating, and countless hours spent researching diamond heists.

I really wanted to do Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, or even the Antwerp diamond heist, but after an age spent scouring the depths of the internet, it hit me i've left the whole thing too late to be able t do either of the stories justice.

Back to the literal drawing board.
hahaha i know this image is absolute dogmuck. but after reverting back to my original theme, a fall into the unconscious, i decided maybe illustrating it via computers might be the way to go. I hate it, this is just a rough mock up of the first page.courtesy of Adobe software, soory maate, i think i prefer my stolen asda fineliner.
production of images begins monday.

I fancied having a go in a different media, I'm always complaining about my work looking amateurish and adobe does give a more professional edge, i just hate it. I'm going to give it another go, in photoshop before settling on a mix of handrawn and edited illustrations.

I knoww whatcha thinking. and i hereby promise to make this project a web orientated number. Ive sketched, (and since i can see youre itching to know will upload soon) the ways i wish to manipulate javascript. nothing mindblowing, im but a rookie.

right off you sod.

initial voyage concepts

meant to scan these in a while ago. all sketch booked up, although im massively late in getting stuck in. whole idea of an open ended brief war' about overwhelming despite my initial thoughts.

Above is a brain storm, similar t what i did for animation actually, cos that project went pretty well. Its all the initial ideas i thought might be worth a go. I was into the idea of a journey through time, like the victorians or egyptians or something education sorta horrible histories for kids. Fancied havin a go at a prison break or something, but me mother talked me outta that one and towards the idea of a fall into unconsciousness.
Always going to be aimed towards kids, theres loads of cbeebies websites and games for kids, but most of them are tediously dull,or dumbed down. not for me. but isaac obviously. i reckon theres a huge niche for like a simple but still interesting and engaging site/game. Going to spend as much of this year as i can gearing my work and briefs towards kids, cos thats pretty much the place i wanna end up when i finish uni, if my neonhive love gets me nowhere of course haha.

bitta further thinkin into me inital idea.

Been surfing through blogs and theres a boy in th class doing a trip through space, put me off the unconscious idea cos i kinda wanted to do the same thing, a constant falling, with a person always in the same place on the screen, background moving around em. like when alice falls down the rabbit hole. His looks intimidatingly professional, haha a standard i never hit.

gonna do some initial drawings as to where id go with the historical and the dream theme, do abit of investigative research into how id go about both then chose one. massively rushed for time so gotta get on it. typography, illustrative stuff, wireframing and actual coding gotta be done asaaap.

opinions on which theme pleasee.

WEB 2.0 GRAPHIC

in the shorta undeveloped style i wanna douse the voyage project in

just re read the brief and it asks for 500 words about web 2.0 graphics. ill give you about 10.
web 2.0 has a distinct graphical style, alot to do with the way multimedia and graphics are merging. its clean cut, relies heavily on negative space, and is pretty arsh but bright.
flatspot.com is a great example. check it
